Peter: Can there be a pure experience that is unmediated by its context, be it cultural, religious, linguistic?
Alex: Yes. It is the experience of Oneness outside of time and space, a vast expanse of voidness, clarity and primordial awareness that is the transcendental ground of being. There are realms of luminosity, like the Universal Mind Lattice experience, in which all beings and things are nodes in an infinitely omni-directional grid of fountains and drains of light/energy. This realm is beyond gender, birth and death. It's the realm of the soul.
P: Does your art aim to universalize the particular, or particularize the universal?
A: Both. In my painting, "Love Is a Cosmic Force," two particular lovers dissolve onto a swirling galactic star field while in sexual congress. They are particular separate beings whose translucent bodies signify the universality of the human journey. The work particularizes the universal by being an idiosyncratic portrayal of the scientific and evolutionary view. My work entitled, "Staring Down the Great Chain of Being," is a self portrait as the evolutionary Tree of Life from blue green algae to the modern day. Each of us are a microcosm of that evolutionary symphony.
